Case Studies Japan: Research Trip to Japan for Interdisciplinary Scholars and Graduate Students

This initiative offers an opportunity for an interdisciplinary group of faculty members and graduate students at U.S. institutions to travel to Japan and conduct case study field research in the realms of the humanities and social sciences. The goal is to provide participants, especially those who may not be familiar with Japan, with firsthand experiences to gain a deeper understanding of and make connections in Japan that will be useful in their own disciplines after the trip. Researchers who are experts on Japan at U.S. universities, colleges, think tanks or other research organizations are invited to apply for this grant to help fund a short-term study tour.

U.S.-Southeast Asia-Japan Collaboration and Exchange Initiative

This initiative was designed to connect Japan scholars from the U.S., Southeast Asia, and Japan in order to enhance their collective scholarship through collaborative projects and exchanges, as well as to advance Japanese Studies in these three regions.

This initiative encouraged the creation of scholarly networks and sharing of Japanese Studies resources, research methodology, and practical collaborative work.

Japan-America Collegiate Exchange Travel Program

The Japan Foundation (JF), is pleased to announce the next phase of funding for the “Japan-America Collegiate Exchange Travel Program” initiative.

To facilitate exchange and understanding between Japan and the U.S., the Japan Foundation will provide travel funds to Japan primarily for undergraduates and one faculty member. Instructors teaching a Japan-related course at U.S. universities or colleges are invited to apply for a grant to help fund a short-term study-tour to Japan, while incorporating the visit into course syllabi and itineraries arranged to build-on and enrich course contents. The goal is to provide students with firsthand experience that will allow them to gain a more nuanced and balanced understanding of Japan.
