About

Japan has had a profound influence on Western horticulture for the past 200 years or more. While specialized horticultural techniques, such as bonsai and ikebana, have become quite popular in the United States, the most uniquely Japanese horticultural tradition, known as koten engei, has never gained the popularity of these other art forms. The JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University hosts a virtual symposium which introduces koten engei to an American audience.

This symposium is supported through the CGP Relief Grant for U.S.-Japan Grassroots Exchange under Covid-19 Challenges.
