In October 2021, Catalytic Sound presents the 2nd annual Catalytic Sound Festival, a sprawling international affair, spanning 5 different weekends through October with versions taking place in Amsterdam, Vienna, New York, Chicago, Washington DC, and Trondheim. The festival assembles musicians and thinkers for several days in each location of performances and discussions centered on the challenges facing artists in the contemporary moment. In response to continued uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, Catalytic Sound Festival 2021 will be a hybrid digital/in-person event with live streaming from each festival location. Catalytic Sound Members will be able to stream every event, aside from Austria, for free and tickets are available through the Catalytic Sound Bandcamp page for individual streams at $5 a show.

The festival line-up consists of world-class instrumental composer/improvisers spanning nations, generations, genders, and creative approaches. Nearly the entire 30-member Catalytic Sound cooperative will perform. Guest musicians from across the U.S., Japan, Norway, Austria, and the Netherlands will augment the program.
