Emory hopes to increase literacy on both sides by exposing each party to the languages needed to communicate with one another. The goal for this collaboration is to create models that encourage the advancement of digital humanities research in the field of Japanese Studies. |

Through this grant, approximately ten incoming freshmen will spend ten days in Japan prior to beginning their studies at Furman University. The goals of the project are to increase the number of Japan Studies students at Furman and to foster ties between the Department of Asian Studies and departments without Asian Studies faculty. |

This grant supports an interdisciplinary program consisting of two new courses on Japan, the purchase of materials to expand and enhance research opportunities currently unavailable to students, ten visiting presentations, and two films covering Japanese culture.
