Outline | This grant supports the hiring of two new tenure-track faculty positions in the social sciences of contemporary Japan (one specializing in the international political economy of Japan and the other in Japan’s sociocultural anthropology). This grant will also support the expansion of the current SMU Sun & Star Conferences – an international academic event that examines U.S.-Japan relations, Japanese politics, and the international affairs of Northeast Asia. SMU will establish a SMU Sun & Star White Paper Series that will publish at least six substantial, policy-oriented reports on Japan and U.S.-Japan relations annually.
