Time and Location

May 30 – June 2
George Eastman Museum, Dryden Theatre (Rochester, NY)

About

The Nitrate Picture Show, the festival of film conservation, is back for its eighth year at the George Eastman Museum’s Dryden Theatre. This unique festival features screenings of vintage nitrate prints from international archives alongside the museum’s own extensive collection. Attendees can also enjoy lectures and presentations from leading archivists and film historians. Celebrated as the only festival in the world entirely dedicated to nitrate film, it offers attendees the rare experience of viewing original nitrate prints—from silent era masterpieces to Technicolor spectacles—across all film genres, in a cinema setting with fellow film enthusiasts.

The festival kicks off with a Press Conference on Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m., where the festival line-up, special guests, and unique presentations will be announced. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with exclusive presentations for Passholders running from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The first nitrate screening of the festival, featuring a newly included legendary film print, will take place that evening. The festival concludes, on Sunday June 2, with the Blind Date with Nitrate, a screening that remains a surprise until the curtain rises!

This event is supported through the JFNY Grant for Arts and Culture.
