Kanreki: Buffalo-Kanazawa Sister Cities 60th Anniversary
Time and Location
September 30 and October 1
Buffalo History Museum (Buffalo, NY)
About
One’s 60th birthday in Japan or kanreki marks the completion of a full cycle of the Chinese zodiac calendar and represents a time for rebirth, renewal, and celebration.
60 years ago in 1962, Buffalo became Kanazawa’s first sister city, and The Japan Culture Center of Western New York is proud to celebrate this milestone with a two-day event promoting Japanese arts and culture and reaffirming our friendship across borders for the next 60 years and beyond.
Festivities will include a renewal ceremony attended by mayoral delegations from both cities, musical performances (taiko, shamisen, and jazz band), a mural and folding panel art display, tea ceremony, aikido demonstrations, Japanese dance, garden tours, and booths from other local Japan-connected groups.
This event at the Buffalo History Museum is free and open to all; see Japan Culture Center of Western New York website for full details!
Dates and Time:
