About

JapanFest Atlanta, the largest Japanese festival in the Southeastern United States, will feature a special performance of Hakata Koma this year.

Hakata Koma is a traditional performing art that has been passed down for over 480 years, showcasing the skillful use of spinning tops. Designated as the first Intangible Cultural Property of Fukuoka Prefecture, this rare and culturally significant tradition is now led by Chikushi Shuraku III, the 20th-generation successor of Chikuzen Hakata Koma.

Spinning-top performances seen across Japan today can all trace their origins back to Hakata Koma, making this an important opportunity to experience the original form of this unique cultural heritage.
