About

Japan Village is celebrating the 4th annual summer festival! Natsumatsuri is a traditional Japanese summer festival. Japanese people have celebrated and enjoyed the summer for generations with the Japanese traditional Bon Dance, Mikoshi Carrying (Portable Shrine Carrying), Japanese Taiko drums, etc. Japan Village Natsumatsuri offers traditional shows to watch and fun traditional Natsumatsuri games and foods! Yo-Yo Fishing, Cotton candy, Ice shavings, Traditional masks (Omen), and much more!

The theme of this year is “Introduction of Various Traditional Japanese Folk Dances from all over the Country and Local City Cultures”. Japan Village will give New Yorkers an opportunity to learn about various Japanese local cities and cultures along with a wide range of traditional local folk dances from all over Japan.

In addition, Yamaguchi city from Japan will set up a “Visit Yamaguchi Promotion” in the event. They have a campaign “Win a trip to Yamaguchi” and give “Quiz Competition about Yamaguchi” by attendance.

Moreover, as same as last year, Morioka city will demonstrate the local food tradition “Wanko Soba Noodle Eating contest” to introduce Morioka and their culture to New Yorkers.
