About

The year 2023 marks the 50th commemorative year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. Japan is now the most trusted country among Southeast Asia, and Southeast Asia is arguably the critical region in Japan’s “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” vision. In short, relationships have now evolved into one of the most cordial and important ones for Japanese diplomacy. However, its path was never straightforward. This seminar highlights critical junctures of Japan-Southeast Asian relations after World War II and discuss the future of Japan-Southeast Asia relations in the context of intensifying US-China strategic competition.

Questions are encouraged during the live event.
