Presenters
Yoko’o Sakiko is a multi-talented choreographer, dancer, storyteller, cultural promoter and is also ordained as a Buddhist priest. She learned the philosophy and techniques of kamishibai from Eiko Matsui, a prominent member of the modern educational kamishibai movement. Sakiko was born in Japan but lives in Mexico. Fluent in Spanish, she has played an important role since 2011 in promoting kamishibai not only in Mexico but also in Central and South America. Formerly a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Michoacan, she is currently the director of Mexico-Japan Walking Together A.C. and has also created delightful kamishibai stories for infants.
Anna Manuel is a reading teacher turned storyteller and story coach. She grew up in a bilingual environment in the Phillippines, has taught overseas in Thailand and India and now resides in Australia. She brings kamishibai stories to schools, libraries and children’s festivals and has run workshops for educators, librarians and artists to promote creative teaching and storytelling that enhance early literacy, language development and love for reading. This will be Anna’s second presentation at the World Kamishibai Forum, and she will share her creative ideas with a focus on early childhood educational settings.
