About

Yoshitaka Amano is one of the most celebrated creators of our time, responsible for the creative direction of iconic media universes, including the groundbreaking anime Speed Racer and the beloved Final Fantasy video game saga. His illustrations for the video game gave birth to many seminal heroic characters, rendering them in a baroque style unfamiliar to the industry at the time. Since a 1997 sojourn in New York City, Amano has cultivated a distinct painting practice that is simultaneously independent of, yet deeply entwined with, his work.

Yoshitaka Amano: Big Bang surveys approximately 30 years of Amano’s multimedia paintings, approximately 40 works in oil paint, ink, and automotive paint. The exhibit will introduce visitors to his spellbinding visual arts lexicon, composed of heroes, spirits, and monsters that continue to inhabit his artistic practice today.
