About

New York-based theater company Crossing Jamaica Avenue (CJA) presents an intimate, virtual solo performance of famed Japanese writer Kenji Miyazawa’s popular story The Nighthawk Star (Yodaka no Hoshi). Thought to have been written 100 years ago, this timeless tale recalls a misfit bird whose journey to escape leads to an otherworldly transformation. The production is directed by CJA Artistic Director Sonoko Kawahara and performed by Marina Celander with original music by traditional Japanese musician Fumi Tanakadate on fue, taiko, and piano. The performance will be presented followed by an interactive talkback.

Tickets are free with a pay-what-you-can donation option. Reservations can be made here. Reservations include access to The Nighthawk Star recording through Sunday, September 5. To expand accessibility, there will be English subtitles.
