The Shigeyama family has been performing Kyogen, a form of traditional Japanese comedic theater, for over 400 years. The evening will begin with Ippei explaining the history and distinctive qualities of Kyogen, followed by a performance from the renowned classic Kakiyamabushi (The Persimmon Thief), and Susugigawa (The Washing River), an adaptation by Iizawa Tadasu of the medieval French farce “Le Cuvier”. The program will be presented in Japanese with English translation.
